Our generation is fucked like what has this world come to. A text first is the new dinner date, a hookup is when you know he’s into you. We let these guys get away with treating us girls like literally shit and I think we need to stop letting it happen, it’s only getting worse. They think they own us, they don’t know what being a gentleman is. This society is horrible and increasing by the weeks, Society is teaching our youth to be okay with being treated like this, IT’S NOT OKAY! It’s teaching our girls you have to be perfect to get the guy you want. Guys always say “she can’t have too much hips” or “she has to have a nice ass and rack” or “she can’t have cellulite” seriously we all have it none of us are perfect some of us are just better at hiding it. I’m just so done with what this world is turning into. WHO’S WITH ME?!?

Yes, our generation is indeed fucked.
I don’t think a text first equals a dinner date though and you don’t have to hook up to know a person likes you.
      Chivalry isn’t dead.
There are a still a lot of gentlemen out there (like me) to be honest.
      However, I don’t think there’s enough.
That goes for the ladies as well.
      There’s not enough of you.
The world needs more males like me and more females like you.

Society is fucked? Honey, you are society. Look at your post, worried about dick and how it treats you. Change your focus. Stop looking outward and search within. What do you have to offer this world besides a bitchy post about lousy males? You are obviously in a cycle of negativity. The universe picks up that energy and gives it right back. You have to CHANGE YOU! It is the law of attraction. Its physics. Send out what you want to get what you want. Simple. Namaste

In the author’s defense, objectification of women in today’s society is definitely a serious problem.

      She is society?

That literally makes zero fucking sense.

Yes, this letter was negative and I do believe when a person is negative they’ll encounter more negativity in life.

However, we need more females like the author in our society.

We need people to question the ins, the outs, what’s right, what’s wrong, and identifying the issues is always the first step.

The majority of men, women, and children in today’s society are brain-washed.

      Literally.

Mass media and the US government have transformed the majority of our population into mouth-breathing, sex, drug, and violence addicted animals.

Men are given this impression we have to be ‘prefect’ to get the woman of our dreams as well.

For example, we’re told to be athletic, be muscular, be smart, generous, independent, rich, courteous, chivalrous, masculine, dominant, etc…

Women are given a similar idea in that they need to be skinny, they need to have an impossible barbie-doll body, they need to be feminine, they need to be vulnerable, they need to be submissive, yet at the same time we want these women to be intellectual, independent, financially stable, and more.

I think these are the expectations that are wide-spread throughout America.

      They’re beyond unrealistic.

I feel like the world was a much happier place before we had TV, radio, internet, cars, social media, and all these things that make it so we can constantly compare our lives to others.

      It’s not healthy.

We let gender roles, expectations, and ourselves get in the way of seeing what’s truly important.

      Earth, ourselves, and our individuality….

As a society, the world needs to make some changes collectively.

We need to open our eyes so we can make the next generation a place where our kids will thrive, flourish, and live properly.

It starts one soul at a time…

But this is all pretty much bullshit. I get the sense you have absolutely no context for any of your statements. Nothing you complain about is unique to this generation, except for texting, and thats just a technological advance. In fact, quite to the contrary, while all of it may be true to some extent, all of it has also improved for women over the years. To the point were on the verge of having the first woman President. There is certainly much progress still to be made in gender equality, particularly with equal pay. But in terms of men treating women like shit or ‘owning’ them, maybe you should do some research on what things were like 100-200 years ago, when men actually did own women in the context of slavery, when husbands were legally allowed to beat their wives, when women weren’t allowed to vote, sue, or own property. Better yet, do some research on the way many MODERN cultures treat their women, particularly in the middle east and africa.

And in terms of your whole ‘too much hips/nice ass/rack’ line of bitching, one word: corsets. Or back to the international example, two words: foot binding. Additionally, this is not really something unique to women at all. Men are raised with the same pressure to have six packs and fast cars. You grew up with barbies and skinny supermodels, men grew up with gi joes and ripped football players.

All in all, your post really set me off because I feel like it completely demeans the struggles of the generations of women before you, what they had to go through to give you the life you claim is so fucked up. Are things perfect? no certainly not, but to that I agree with the two above posts that your bitching isnt going to help anything

    7. Oh, Namaste

Yes, because things used to be arguably worse, let’s try to silence this woman and shame her for having negative feelings. Because if you are a girl you are not entitled to be negative (even on an anonymous website meant for getting rid of feelings…) or your whole life will be negative…. right? So… just smile, I guess?

Maybe we should be incredibly sexist and throw in some condescending comments to the author for good measure… things like “good girl” and “sweetie.” Or we can scold OP for “bitching”. Or we can tell OP she is “growing” if we think she listens to us. What a good girl, oh is she taking my advice?… she must be growing… just be positive, sweetie!

If you’re wondering what I’m referring to above… this same “Namaste” writer commented on one of my own letters a while back and used all of the above to try to shame, correct, and silence my feelings. Here’s an actual thing she said to me, word for word: “If a guy treats you like a whore, its because hes met dozens like you and knows your type.” Wow, that’s so respectful, compassionate, and full of goodwill….

So I say to “Namaste”… Anyone who has read your many responses to other women here can tell that you don’t really like other women to have “bad” feelings…

And to the OP… don’t let anyone tell you that having negative feelings is wrong- it is human, and perfectly healthy to purge your brain of those feelings in what is supposed to be a “safe” space.

Namaste means respect and goodwill and I have not seen those things from you, “Namaste”

Wow, I feel like there are different topics mixed up in one discussion.

Womens rights in general vs. the idea of gender mainstreaming – I think you should differentiate here.

Generations. – I believe that stupidity existed in every generation. History is a good teacher. Here I agree with @No offense. And I also agree with @Lion when it comes to the question what we perceive that we should think we should be today…

Technology in our generation – We have free access to amazing recources of information and knowledge. Here we (still) have great opportunities and advantages in comparision to former generations.

The effects of mass media manipulation – It’s your choice what you want to consume… It never has been easier to find uncensored material and build your own opinion. Who knows how long it will last… Now is the time to wake up and make something of it…
