You stumble in late every Friday night
Keys jingle and scrape into place
    Feet scuffle across the floor
Flip a switch, light floods my tired eyes
‘Sorry’ said with a crooked smile

Brush the sleep away, smooth my hair
Trip to the bathroom always ensued
Cold water bites through foggy thoughts
Share a knowing smile with my mirror image
Love these stolen moments of sleep

On the back porch, chill settles around us
Light and booze make your eyes alive
    You attention never undivided flutters
You talk more than you listen, that’s okay
Conversation is only directed at me

Inside, crawl back into the couch and covers
Conversation wanes to music and comments
I steal one last glance in the screen’s glow
Curl up and hunker down once again
Lulled to sleep by your music and keystrokes
