Very few people know about our history (or so I’d like to believe). But even when it was earlier on and more apparent, it was always clear no one understood the way I felt about you. Or perhaps more accurately, how strongly I felt that way. As such, all the advice I ever received regarding you was always negative; ie she’s not good for you, you need to move on, it’s never gonna happen, blah blah blah. I stopped listening a long time ago.

I don’t need others to validate my feelings for you.

I don’t need others to find my feelings acceptable.

I don’t need others to understand the intensity of my feelings.

Honestly, I don’t even need that from you (though I do like it!)

I’m a grown ass man. I say what I wanna say, I do what I wanna do, and I love who I wanna love.

Why did they give you advice? Wasn’t it you who motivated them to do so? If you don’t care what others say, why do you think so much about it?

Yes, you may have doubts and think you need second or third opinions. Maybe some of them change your perspective and make you think differently. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but I’m convinced that it always pays off to listen to yourself. To say what you wanna say and to do what you wanna do can be much harder than to say what someone wants to hear and to do what someone wants you to do. Do it anyways. Accept that you need to pass a difficult stage where people try to judge, criticize and change you. When you are through, you will see how liberating it is and you will be proud that you followed your own path.
