Is it so important to know why? Is there some predilection that exists, that should speak to the contrary? Why not enjoy the moment and the feeling, in these fleeting moments…?

I agree with Gemini. You can’t always predict who and why you care for someone. It either exists, or it doesn’t. As far as good souls go, it either strikes you like a lightening bolt or it grows on you like a rare rose. It’s up to your own heart to figure these things out, and you will.
You don’t have to have a societal reason, you just have to believe that the place in your heart of caring for this person, is the right place for your worthiness of doing so.
