You broke the news to me today. You told me to back down, that you weren’t ready. You told me, honestly, and bluntly, that you weren’t looking for someone right now.
    Thank you.
Thank you for taking my hand on our first date. Thank you for letting me take you swing dancing. Thank you for bearing with me and my friends as I introduced you to Star Wars, and for being an amazing dance partner for the few dances that we were able to spend together.
Thank you for being friendly on New Year’s Eve, when I introduced myself just after you had taken a bite of that brownie.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be the guy who would make you happy, or who you would be proud to call yours. Life isn’t fair when it comes to things like that.
I wish I could have known you for more than these 2 months before I have to go to the next part of my life. Over the course of the next 3 months, I’m sure I’m going to think of our short time together whenever the path is harder than I know how to handle.
If a Drill Instructor catches me smiling, it will probably be because I will be remembering that first date, when you said that your hands were cold.
I hope you will write, even though I doubt you will.
    Thank you,
