Turkey. Smiling faces. Laughter. This week has truly been wonderful. Driving home in the dark I saw something that brought a smile to my face.
Sparkling Christmas lights brighten the door of my heart. All along the darkened roads they shimmer and glitter reminding me of Xmas time… the tall pine tree decorated in red, blue, and white, Dad reading the Christmas story, the smell of homemade cookies and special dishes that line the once empty counter tops. I picture how it will be soon with our family smiling as each present is torn open with exclamations of delight and funny comments. That is not the most important of events. What I look forward to is spending time with the people I love most.
So much has happened this year, but with the holiday season approaching, and one gone already, I can’t help but get caught up in the Christmas spirit. I wish he was here to celebrate… to join my family in watching the snow flakes fall gently to the ground, or snuggle down with fuzzy socks near the tree while drinking hot cocoa, or walk hand in hand down the whitened paths making snowshoe prints as we go. I will not let it dampen my spirits though. It is time to say goodbye to all of that.
Tonight I will walk in the cool November air and greet these twinkling lights as if they are the wishing stars that have come true in my life. There is hope for tomorrow.
I’m thinking about all of you that share your thoughts on here. This Christmas is teaching me that even though there is still pain in this world, I can learn from it while I learn to love again (even if it’s not romantic love), but love those around me. I hope this Xmas is extra special for you.
Wishing you a good week!
