You were my first love, all be it, my only love so far in my life. You were my high school sweetheart and even after that we’ve been great friends, lovers, and confidants.
We used to talk about how after college we’d get back together. In college we’d have drunkenly call and pour our hearts about how we miss each other, over breaks we’d spend countless hours together, talking, smiling, laughing. Now its after college and you’re engaged to your college sweetheart. I’m happy that you’re happy, but I wish it were me.
I’ll be at your wedding next summer smiling and saying congratulations while fighting back from saying “I love you still” when they ask for any objections.
I know we’ll continue to be friends as we grow old, and that brings some reprise, knowing that we aren’t saying good bye.
I’m sorry, Buddy, but I still love you and part of me always will.
