You’ve had a boyfriend for the majority of the time I’ve known you.
And it wasn’t until I left town when opportunities came around. I could only come back every so often, and only for a day or two. Most of the time, you were too busy, or just didn’t want to see me, I could never tell. Then one day out of the blue your relationship status changed to “in a relationship” on the social networking site. I missed you again.
Two years later I joined the military. When I got the chance to see you again I was thrilled. We saw a movie, and watched people sing karaoke. I was so insecure I couldn’t tell if it was a date or not, so I couldn’t bring myself to take any chances. The night ended with a kiss on the cheek, and I haven’t seen you since.
Now I am miles away and you are in college, and as often as I think of reasons to inadvertently drop by, I always give up because I don’t want to waste what could be my only chance on a long-distance relationship.
Here’s to our paths crossing one day in the future.
